Ciao, Opera Mavens! Here are your educational opera-tunities for July:

Exploration Workshop: All About La Boheme – Step into 19th-century Paris and meet the bohemians from Puccini’s celebrated opera! Experience the drama and romance of the main characters’ unconventional, artistic lifestyles through song, movement and storytelling during this interactive workshop for families with children ages 7 and older. Tickets are $10 per person (scholarships available). Both adults and children must have a ticket to attend. Sun July 2 from 11am – 12noon or 12:30 – 1:30pm
Bryan Education Studio – Wilsey Center for Opera 4th Floor, Veterans Building 401 Van Ness Ave., SF

Great Voices: The Art of Singing – We all have voice boxes, so why can’t we all sing like Caruso or Callas? How do opera stars develop those soaring, achingly beautiful voices? How can they sing for three hours without a microphone while still being heard over a sixty-piece orchestra? In this four-week course, instructor Diane Mauch will use CDs and DVDs to provide examples that illustrate what opera singers bring to their art and how they train to produce it. Don’t miss this chance to learn about the balance of natural talent, instruction, and practice that create such vocal miracle workers.
$48 for OLLI and Rossmoor Opera Club members/$66 for nonmembers
Friday afternoons July 28; Aug 11, 18, 25 from 1 – 3pm
