Ciao, Opera Mavens. No collusion here, just two out-of-the-ordinary semi-related opera-tunities next weekend!

1) There is still space available in Speight Jenkins‘s Stanford Continuing Studies course Russia’s Opera Glory: Three Masterpieces. This one-day class (with lunch break) will explore and elucidate Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, and Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District as only the former General Director of Seattle Opera can do. Tuition $210; for more information or to register go to https://continuingstudies.stanford.edu/courses/liberal-arts-and-sciences/russia-s-opera-glory-three-masterpieces/20182_WSP-99
Sat Feb 23, 10am-12 noon & 1:30-3:30pm, Stanford University campus

2) You are also invited to a private house concert of Russian Art Songs performed by bass Kirk Eichelberger (OSJ 2001-03 & 2005-06), soprano Marina Tolstova, and pianist Simona Snitkovskaya. Program includes Mussorgsky’s rarely performed Songs and Dances of Death, Art Songs by Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff’s 6 Songs, Op. 38. Tickets $30; reserve your seat by purchasing through PayPal to ssimona@mail.ru. More information available at https://www.facebook.com/events/2328188694084354.
