Ciao, Opera Mavens. Here are three fascinating productions recently streamed from Europe.
The first, Rossini’s Le Comte Ory, is a delighttful, funny romp from Paris’s Opera Comique.
The second, Puccini’s La Boheme, strangely, takes place on a space ship. It will not satisfy everyone. It’s from the Paris Opera. (This stream comes from “Medici.tv” with English subtitles. It is free, although you will have to sign up if you haven’t already done so.) Gustavo Dudamel conducts.
The third, Puccini’s Turandot, from Torino, Italy, is a non-Chinese treatment of a very Chinese opera. Go figure. It also scraps the traditional Alfano ending and ends with Liu’s death. This stream comes from “Opera Vision” and has English subtitles.
